The result was a surprise to many spectators, but it was well disserved. Adam Belkhadir and Vincent Eleveld are champions of the TEZ Padel Open 2011. In the final, they defeated the more experienced Norberto Nesi (Argentina) and Sebastian Dodds (Chile) by 6-3 6-4.
Remarkable is that little over a year ago Belkhadir could barely hit the ball. Today, he is a padel champion at TEZ. Despite his technical limitations he has become a tough opponent. He has learnt to compensate his limited techniques with a strong commitment, passion and intelligence. As someone was noticing during the final match ^… to defeat Adam you need to win every point twice. He will return the ball you thought he would not and you will need to build the rally again… ^
Vincent Eleveld is a known cookie in Enschede. He is a talented tennis player and tennis coach. He has remarkable feel for the ball. One can easily tell that he can play any racket sport well. Padel is new to him as well and he remains playing tennis-like padel, but his great eye-hand coordination allows him to build pressure from his volley stand.
During the TEZ final Norberto Nesi, who is a padel trainer, and Sebastian Dodds, who played at the highest level in his home country Chile during the 90s, did not have enough answers to the numerous lobs of Belkhadir. They kept avoiding the volleys from Eleveld, but that was not enough. Dobbs tried to hammer Eleveld with his fast smashes but made too many unforced errors. Nesi did not get enough chances to counter attack via the back wall, as he usually does. Except for a quick rally that advanced them to a favorable 3-1 in the second set, they never seemed to get fully into the match. ^… Sebastian never got into the match. We had a discussion with Adam and Vincent at the beginning of the match; there was a disagreement about a call. Sebastian was very upset and never got into the match after that. Me neither. We could not concentrate. Today they played better. Period. Congratulations to them…^, said Nesi.
Belkhadir and Eleveld where more focused, committed and made much less unforced errors. They disserved their title of champions of the TEZ Padel Open Tournament 2011.
