Eduardo Espona (Sp) and Jeronimo Cañas (Arg) triumphed at the Voorhout NPB/FIP 100 Tournament, at club Tennispark Oosthout. Organized by the Dutch Padel Federation and Tournament Director Rob Ubink, the championship took place from from 2nd to 4th September.
For their first match, unused to the Dutch weather, Espona/Cañas battled under the rain and wind to beat the Dutch team Koot/Weerdt for fast 6/2 and 6/1. On the quarter-finals they meet Bram Meijer (ranked #2 in the Dutch Circuit) with his new teammate from Enschede Jim Kwakkel. The Spanish/Argentine team imposed their longer experience with padel to defeat the guys from Twente for a tight 6/4 6/4. For the semifinals, they faced seed #2 of the tournament, the experienced Bogaart/Schuilenburg, to continue their road to Championship, for a close 5/7 7/6(8-6) 7-5.
On Sunday, for the Championship finals Espona/Cañas faced the #1 seed and current no1. in the Dutch Padel Circuit Peter Bruijsten, partnering with the always solid Coen Beltman. The final’s result was for the visitors once more for 7-6 6-3.
